Puppies tend to require more calories and essential nutrients then a fully-grown adult dog does. They are growing rapidly, but when they are under six months of age, they should get three or four meals each day. After six months of age, they are able to handle two to three meals a day.

There are several different types of food that can be fed to your dog. For example, there is Dog Kibble that is made up of rabbit, duck, salmon, venison and bison. When looking for dog food look for organic and natural ingredients. Some professional dog breeders and handlers take on another alternative in feeding his or her dog and even becomes a chef for his or her dog.

Soft dog food can give your dog diarrhea; so most owners prefer to feed dry kibbles to their dog. But, it depends on the age and how your dog reacts to the soft food. Some dogs do quite fine with soft food. The positive side to feeding your dog dry kibble is that when your dog crunches the hard kibbles, their jaw muscles receives the exercise it needs. It also keeps your dog’s teeth clean. Your dog’s stools would result in an easier cleanup with it being compact and firm. Nutritional benefits are not offered in semi-moist foods unlike premium kibble or canned foods do.

Some people would feed their dog some canned food. If your dog refuses to consume their dog feed they are fed, it is good to add a little canned food to give it more taste, making it more appetizing for your dog. The dog’s food bowl should contain at least three quarters of dog food and maybe around one quarter of canned food. Your dog would be happier to receive their food.
Safe foods to give your dog other then dog food are white rice and pasta after it is cooked. To help any gastrointestinal problems, feed your dog white rice with boiled chicken or some pumpkin. Pumpkin also helps your dog if he or she has diarrhea.

Vegetables such as carrot sticks, cucumber or zucchini slices, green beans are healthy to feed your dog. Plain baked potato is good too, as long as your dog does not consume any raw potatoes. Fruits such as apples, bananas, watermelon and orange slices can make a tasty healthy treat for your dog too as long as the seeds are removed.

Dogs are fine eating lean cuts of meat. Make sure that the meat is thoroughly cooked and cut up to an appropriate bite size. No bones should be given to your dog, so watch out and check for any small bones in the meat. All of the visible fat, including the skin on poultry, should be removed before consumed.
If your not sure which dog food would be appropriate to feed your dog, you can schedule an appointment to discuss with your dog’s vet for any advice that can be given. Remember it is up to you to choose which dog food is suitable and works best for your dog.
Always make sure you give your dog ample water that is available at all times.
