In order for
a dog to qualify as a show dog and participate in dog shows, the dog must be of
age, which is 6 months or older, acquiring a breed type. To participate in a
dog show, the owner must have his or her dog registered as an individual with
the American Kennel Club (AKC). As a puppy, he or she should start being
trained and as the puppy age older be more exposed outdoors at parks along with
walking around the block or at the beach. A show dog should meet up with the
standards, requirements and have no disqualifying faults. Faults can include a
dog being over or underweight and being taller or shorter then he or she should
be. With professional dog breeders, they breed using selective breeding and not
natural selection.
